ELAG European meeting
CIMEC has also attended the annual European conference of ELAG – European Library Automation Group.
After the ELAG Conference, the latest achievements and advancements in the field of Public Library Automation, as well as new trends regarding standards and new standardization efforts in the field, were communicated to the IOSSPL team by the CIMEC representative Dr.Dan Matei.
• May 24-27, 2005 - Zagreb, Croatia
CIDOC Meeting
Dr. Dan Matei, representing CIMEC, participated at CIDOC Meeting in May. One of the main topics of discussion was the paradigm shift in the cataloguing of the cultural items, both in the museum and library communities. That is, the major changes in the conceptual models, i.e. CRM in the museum world and FRBR in the library world, were analyzed and the progress of the harmonisation of the two conceptual models project was analyzed.

Calimera Expert Workshop
A presentation was made by Dr.Dan Matei at Calimera Expert Workshop on Technology Training Requirements in Archives, Libraries and Museums.
• July 5-10, 2004 - Brussels, Belgium
Meeting with ELAG representatives
The official visit at the The Royal Library Albert I (Biblioteque Royale du Belgique), Brussels, Belgium, was organized between July 5-10, 2004, with the aim to establish a cooperative relationship with ELAG (European Library Automation Group) and discuss the potential continuation of the project on a Europe-wide scale, in several convergent strategic development directions.
The round-table occasioned the presentation of current and future opportunities and common interests and a valuable exchange of ideas between the project manager of the IOSSPL Project - Ms. Adina Riposan - and the president of ELAG - Mrs. Paula Goossens, with the participation of technical experts from both the IOSSPL Project and the Royal Library of Belgium. The president of ELAG expressed a vivid interest in the IOSSPL initiative and the opportunity to set the basis for the future collaboration at the European scale.

Participation to ELAG 2004
This year, one of the representatives of the IOSSPL Project and the director of the CIMEC-Institute for Cultural Memory, Bucharest - Mr. Dan Matei - has conducted a workshop on "How to express MARC in XML"
ELAG - Interoperability: new challenges and solutions:
28th Library System Seminar, http://www.elag2004.no,
brings together once a year people involved in library
automation in the leading European libraries and
information centres. The organization counts 450
members in 27 countries all over Europe. The meetings
aim at in depth discussions of particular library
automation topics and at the promotion of informal
exchange of ideas and experience. The topics covered
are technical and meant for participants with a
computing background.
• June 1, 2004 - IOSSPL Project launching
June 1, 2004, was the official launching of the IOSSPL project - Integrated Open-Source System for Public Libraries. The 50% co-funding granted by the Ministry of Productive Activities, Italy, according to the Italian Law 212/1992, is planned for the end of the year 2004. (Press Release)

In October 2003, the IOSSPL project worked out by CONTACT NET (Romania)
gained an international projects contest launched by the Italian government -
the Ministry of Productive Activities, under the framework of the Italian Law 212/1992.
The official launching of the IOSSPL project was announced on June 1st, 2004.
The Ministry of Productive Activities, by the General Direction for the Promotion of Exchanges – Division IV – ROMA, approved, by the Decree of the Ministry of Productive Activities issued on 29/12/2004, the IOSSPL Project (cod 212/03/ROM15) to be financially sustained under the Law 212/92 D.M. n. 171 from 19/04/2001, by 50% co-funding.
