IOSSPL is an RTD project in the area of Public Libraries Automation and Integration. June 1, 2004, was the official launching of the IOSSPL project - Integrated Open-Source System for Public Libraries. The IOSSPL Project was worked out by CONTACT NET consulting company, Bucharest, Romania, and was submitted in August 2003 for evaluation to the Italian Ministry of Productive Activities in partnership with the Italian company PROGETTO SOFTWARE, Ragusa, Italy. According to the evaluation results, the project was approved and was ranked 8 / 37. The funding support from the Italian ministry will cover up to 50% of the project value. The Ministry of Productive Activities, by the General Direction for the Promotion of Exchanges – Division IV – ROMA, approved, by the Decree of the Ministry of Productive Activities issued on 29/12/2004, the IOSSPL Project (cod 212/03/ROM15) to be financially sustained under the Law 212/92 D.M. n. 171 from 19/04/2001, by 50% co-funding. The Italian Law 212/92 (amended in June 2003) is a financial instrument created to support the bilateral or multinational programmes developed yearly for the promotion of the collaboration between Italy and the list of countries nominated every year, among CIPE, in order to facilitate the transition of those Central and East European countries towards new economic models and towards European integration. CONTACT NET will coordinate the project development as Romanian promoter. CONTACT NET will also ensure, as software development company, the development of the open-source information system for public libraries, in collaboration with CIMEC - The Institute for Cultural Memory of the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs, Romania. Further on, CONTACT NET will achieve the system implementation at the 5 Pilot libraries selected and the professional formation of the libraries employees for PC utilization and the digital library functions understanding. Finally, CONTACT NET will elaborate the technical documentation and the end-user manual necessary for future utilization, as well as the installation kit and the standardized installation procedures to facilitate the future implementation in the libraries that will express their interest to use the IOSSPL system.
